One of the purposes of this website (and the What's Next discussion guide) is to provide you with a snapshot of WV's economy, both historically and in the present, so you have the information you need as you talk and weigh potential actions to strengthen your local economy. Among the more traditional sectors like forestry, education, and retail, we also wanted to include the growing tech industry in North-Central WV. So we reached out to the WV High Technology Consortium Foundation, located at the I-79 Technology Park near Fairmont, a scientific research and development organization that uses its profits to promote regional economic diversification. They provided two very useful documents that help capture some of the economic impacts of the growing high tech industry in our state: an up-to-date overview of the Foundation's work, and "Economic Impact of the North Central West Virginia Technology Industry on the West Virginia Economy," a study out of Fairmont State University.
